Distance: 5000 light years

Actual Size: 100 light years across
Visual Size: 45x20 arcminutes

The Butterfly Nebula is the nebulousity near to Sadr or Gamma Cygni, formed as a result of extremely powerful interstellar winds from a nearby star.  Sadr itself is only 750 light years away, whereas the Butterfly Nebula is 5000 light years distant.
