The New General Catalogue was first compiled and published in 1888, so not really “new” anymore! It was compiled by John Louis Emily Dreyer. It contains 7,840 objects, including galaxies, star clusters and emission nebula. Additional supplements were published in 1895 & 1908, known as the “Index Catalogues” (IC) listing a further 5,386 astronomical objects.
